Out-of-province Pharmacy Technician Registration

Any individual who wishes to practice as a pharmacy technician in Newfoundland and Labrador must register with the College of Pharmacy of Newfoundland and Labrador. Pharmacy Technicians currently registered in another jurisdiction in Canada are eligible to apply for registration with the College if they meet the requirements set out below.

Eligibility

Must be currently registered as a pharmacy technician in another Canadian jurisdiction.
Must have successfully completed the CPNL Registration Exam.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION

The following documentation is required to be submitted with the Pharmacy Technician Registration Application. Visit Registration Requirements for more information.

Photo identification
Certificate of conduct
Proof of professional liability insurance
Letters of Standing sent directly to the College from all pharmacy regulatory authorities with which the applicant is currently, or was formerly, registered. These letters must include:
the period of time the applicant was registered and the applicant’s current status with that organization;
confirmation that the applicant has complied with any professional development or competency requirements of that organization;
whether the applicant is authorized to perform/participate in any expanded scopes of practice;
whether there are currently any terms, conditions, or limitations attached to the applicant’s registration;
whether the applicant has ever been or is currently suspended or restricted with respect to the practice of pharmacy by that organization;
whether there is a record of any disciplinary findings for this applicant; and
whether the applicant is currently the subject of any outstanding allegations or disciplinary proceedings.
Proof of English language proficiency may be required depending on the current province of registration.

Application

If you have determined you are eligible to register as a pharmacist and have obtained all the required documentation, you may apply through the College’s online application portal by following the steps below.

Click Application Portal in the Portal Login menu at the top right of the webpage.
Create an account by clicking the “Register for an Account” link and following the instructions.
Click the Start New Application button
Click to expand the Pharmacy Technician Applications category
Click Select this Application button under the Pharmacy Technician from Other Canadian Jurisdiction – Pharmacy Technician Registration Application.
Follow the instructions to submit the application and pay the application fee.

Completed applications are reviewed in the order they are submitted and may take 5-7 business days to process once all required documentation and fees are received. Applicants will be notified by email once a decision has been made. If approved, the applicant must pay the annual registration fee by logging into the Applications Portal and clicking the Pay Registration Fees button next to the appropriate application. Once the annual registration fee is paid, the pharmacy technician will be added to the Public Register and registration will be effective until December 31st of the registration year. The registration certificate can be downloaded from the Registrant Portal.
