Practice Consultant (Hospital Pharmacy)

The Newfoundland and Labrador Pharmacy Board (NLPB), established by legislation in 1910, is the regulatory body for the practice of pharmacy in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.  NLPB’s mission is to protect the people of the province by governing the profession of pharmacy to ensure quality and ethical care. To fulfill its obligation of public protection, NLPB:  

  • registers pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, students and interns, and licenses pharmacies; 
  • establishes and maintains a quality assurance program to promote high standards for the practice of pharmacy; 
  • develops standards, guidelines, and policies for the practice of pharmacy; and 
  • responds to and manages complaints and disciplines relating to the practice of pharmacy. 

 

To continue to deliver on its legislative responsibilities, NLPB is currently seeking applications from registered pharmacists for the part-time, contractual position of Practice Consultant (Hospital Pharmacy). 

 

Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Quality and Pharmacy Licensing, the Practice Consultant (Hospital Pharmacy) will be responsible for answering questions about the application of NLPB standards to hospital pharmacy practice and conducting pharmacy practice site assessments. Practice site assessments involve assessing the operations and practices in place at hospital pharmacies throughout the province, as well as providing quality improvement coaching to pharmacists-in-charge and their teams, in order to enhance practice and promote adherence to NLPB Standards.  

 

Responsibilities

  • Answer questions from pharmacy professionals about regulatory standards for hospital pharmacy practice. 
  • Support NLPB in the development of standards and policies related to hospital pharmacy practice. 
  • Review licencing applications and conduct inspections of renovations or new hospital pharmacy construction. 
  • Assess whether hospital pharmacies meet the NLPB Standards of Pharmacy Operation and Standards of Practice.  
  • Educate registrants about legislation and NLPB Policies, Guidelines, Standards of Pharmacy Operation, and Standards of Practice to promote adherence. 
  • Work with pharmacy teams to identify areas for practice improvement. 
  • Prepare reports regarding the findings of an assessment or inspection.

Qualifications

  • Registered Pharmacist with the NLPB (or eligible for registration)  
  • 5+ years’ experience in hospital pharmacy practice 
  • Knowledge of sterile and non-sterile compounding  
  • Previous experience in quality assurance and/or pharmacy management considered an asset 

 

Please note, this position requires travel. The person in this position can work remotely; therefore, applications are welcome from candidates throughout the province. 

Employment will be on a contractual basis. Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, on an hourly basis.
